Scottish Country Dance

Scottish Country Dance

Ceilidh (pronounced kay-lee) dancing can be enjoyed at the BFS annual Burns Night in January, with live music and dance instruction.  No partner, no experience is needed.  Come join us for traditional dance favorites such as Strip the Willow, The Dashing White Sergeant, and the Canadian Barn Dance.

Scottish Country Dancing (SCD) is the more formal social dancing of Scotland.  It is typically done in longwise sets of  couples, similar to English Country dancing, but with a very different style, characterized by the style of its music – jigs, reels and strathspeys.  It is fun and can be quite energetic. Because there are more formations than ceilidh dancing, classes are generally offered to enjoy more new dances.  We are lucky to have a certificated instructor here in town. Instructions are geared for beginners in the fall, we work our way up to advanced dances as the school year progresses.  No partner is needed.
