2010-2011 Contra Season is September through May with guest bands and callers providing hot tunes and great dances! Most dances are at the Eagles Lodge with its beautiful wooden dance floor.

International and Scottish dancing - summer schedule now posted. See below for details.

Helena dances are held just down the road, generally on the 1st Friday of the month (except Sept.)

FALL CELEBRATION - Dancing in the Country
Saturday, September 25, 2010

Weather Rock Barn rocks with  music and dancing in the beautiful Shields Valley along Flathead Creek, on state Highway 86. Newcomers and early arrivals welcome - orientation to the Weather Rock property - snacks and drinks available. Schedule of events:

• 1p.m.  English Country Dancing with Mitchell Frey teaching
• 3p.m.  International Folk Dancing starting with easy dances for everyone plus requests - Cecelia Notess, organizer
• Break for pot luck supper - please bring your favorite dish or snack to share
• 6:30 pm Contra Dance  - Weatherwood Band will play - caller TBA. Live music - all dances will be taught and called.

There is space for camping and sleep overs can stay in Hallie's new home at Weather Rock  The Barn has a woodburning fireplace and heaters if it turns cold. Dress for weather changes and cool evenings -- soft soled clean shoes of course for the dance floor.

Families with children are welcome to come and enjoy other options:

• Bird watching
• Small library and reading spaces at the Barn
• Easy hikes along farm roads Explore riparian areas - water and streamside vegetation
• Open fields for games, frisbee, kites, bubble blowing . . . 
• Fire pit conversation area in the evening - marshmallows, smores, camp singing

Remember - Weather Rock has a telephone (at the house) BUT no cell phone service, no cable video, no walmarts, no McDonalds, Please No Dogs.

Directions: From Bozeman - take Bridger Canyon Rd. (Highway 86) paved and striped all the way.  Between mile markers 30-31, right at the Park Co. line look north seeing address, 678 - Drive north on a short gravel road down the hill to the homestead. 

From Livingston or points north coming off of Highway 89, turn on to Highway 86 where it indicates Bridger Bowl Ski Area, go 7 miles and at the Gallatin Co. line, look north seeing the address 678 - Drive north on a short gravel road down the hill to the homestead.

INTERNATIONAL FOLK DANCING NEWS

Bozeman International Folk Dance every Tuesday in July and August, starting at 7:30 p.m., SOB Barn on the MSU campus. Dress for warm summer evenings. Dances are taught or reviewed, so no experience needed. No partner necessary. No cost. Bring clean, soft soled shoes. You may want to bring a water bottle or snack.

• August 28, 2010:  two workshops in Butte with Helene Eriksen: two workshops in Butte by the fabulous international dancer and teacher Helene Eriksen, a wonderful teacher and an expert on some types of dances that expand the range of what we usually do for international dance.  She gives historical and cultural information as well as teaching several dances.
  • 11am-2pm - Dances of the Nailiyat from Algeria ($45)   For an example, see the first dance at  http://www.seattlechannel.org/videos/video.asp?ID=6010823
  • 3pm-6pm - Dances of the Ghawazee from Upper Egypt ($45).
  • A $10 discount is available if you enroll in both workshops dropping the price to $80.
  • Sacred Ground in Butte will again host - A donation to Sacred Ground will be made from the enrollment fees. Call Norma 723-3164 or email  logicmystic@gmail.com  for more information.  It will be held at the MoFab on Park Street uptown.

HELENA CONTRA DANCES:

Our first dance will be Friday, September 17, 2010 at the usual time (7:30 pm). Caller is Mark Mathews from Missoula and the band is the WMDs from Helena. We will be in a new location--St. Peter's Episcopal Church, 511 N Park next to the YWCA. Questions? -- Amie Butler - 406-495-0935.

Please consider purchasing a dance card for $50. The dance card will get you into our 9 scheduled dances during the 2010-2011 season and the money up front allows us to pay for talented bands and callers.
